Online Gaming in Ohio

Sports betting launched in Ohio on January 1, 2023 through licensed operators of online sportsbooks and brick-and-mortar establishments, but online casinos remain illegal.

In May 2025, Senator Nathan Manning introduced SB 197 to legalize online casino gaming, proposing a 36% tax rate for operators partnered with existing casinos (e.g., Jack Cleveland, Hollywood Columbus) and 40% for third-party platforms. The bill mandates $50 million initial license fees and $5 million renewals every five years, with 99% of tax revenue directed to the state general fund.
