Where does the AGA Stand?

4 June 1999
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has had some interesting things to say about Internet gambling. Although it supports prohibition in the U.S., comments by its president, Frank Fahrenkopf, during a recent trip to Australia have raised some eyebrows. (See "Say That Again, Frank?".) An article in the AGA's May newsletter reiterates the fact that the association isn't quite on the same page with Arizona Senator Jon Kyl.

The article served further rhetoric alluding to the association's seesawing position, saying, "The AGA does not oppose the Kyl bill, but continues to work with Sen. Kyl and other senators to address legal problems with the technical details of the legislation. Since the bill covers information about gaming as well as actual bets and wagers, and includes interactive computers as well as the Internet itself, care must be taken in crafting legislation in this area."
