Online Gaming in Chile
Chile's lotteries offer their lottery products online; however, online casinos are prohibited by law no. 19.995.
Chile does not actively prevent its players from playing at offshore casinos. Over the past few years, the Chilean government has shown signs it wants to create its own domestically regulated online gaming industry.
In 2012, Chile's lottery asked the government to permit online casinos. And in 2012 and 2013, Chilean lawmakers tried to pass legislation that would create and grant a limited number of online casino licenses to operators in Chile.
In September 2008, GTECH signed a seven-year contract with Chile's lottery, Polla Chilena, to provide a new online lottery system among many other lottery and sports betting products and services. The online solution gives Polla Chilena the ability to process lottery transactions through the internet. The agreement also introduces instant games to Polla Chilena as well as a sports-betting solution to the country.
In February 2021, Chile’s Ministry of Finance announced its intention to legalize online gambling, with plans to introduce a bill to regulate igaming before the end of the calendar year.
In March 2022, the Chilean government introduced a bill to regulate online gambling, which includes provisions for online sports betting, casino games, and other forms of online gambling.
By 2025, the bill had been approved by the Chamber of Deputies and advanced through the Senate Economy and Finance Committees, and in August 2025 the Senate gave general approval to a framework establishing licensing, 20% GGR tax, a 1% levy for responsible gambling, and blocking orders against unlicensed sites. However, until the law is finally enacted and implemented, Supreme Court and Comptroller decisions confirm that all online gambling and sports betting remain illegal in Chile unless expressly authorised by existing laws for Lotería, Polla, Teletrak and licensed land-based casinos, and internet service providers have been ordered to block offshore betting sites.
