The Future of British Racing?
24 August 2001
The Internet revolution is reaching deep into the bowels of racing, changing it dramatically. Most importantly, two media rights deals are dragging the industry, kicking and screaming at times, into the future. One such deal is GG Media, which has essentially sold the picture rights for 10 out of Britain's 59 racetracks to SIS, the company that provides satellite feed for races. An even greater change for the industry, however, promises to come out of the Go Racing consortium, which has scored all of the media rights (including television, Internet and more) for the other 49 racecourses. The consortium is made up of three equal partners - British Sky Broadcasting, Channel 4 and Arena Leisure. Understanding what this means for horse racing in the U.K. and its impact on betting there makes this desktop conference with Arena Leisure Group Managing Director Ian Penrose important to hear.
