Is New Jersey Going for It?

Although it seems to be a long shot, New Jersey could be the first state to legalize and regulate Internet gambling. Assemblyman Anthony Impreveduto is drafting legislation that would make it legal for citizens to bypass a drive to Atlantic City and enable them to instead enjoy the offerings of a casino from their homes.

OJC Takes a Step Closer

Despite appearances to the contrary, sections of Canada are leaning toward the adoption of some forms of Internet gambling. Ontario Jockey Club (OJC) has shown an interest in going virtual, but has shied away under the recognition that current Canadian law makes online gambling illegal. Recent reinterpretations of the law, suggest that perhaps pari-mutuel account wagering over the Internet is indeed legal, and now it looks like OJC is prepared to move forward.

For example, interactive gaming regulations in jurisdictions like Malta, Belize and a few Australian states and territories prohibit licensees from accepting residents as customers. In response, Virtgame.com and several other companies have been hard at work developing strong, user-friendly border control technology.
