The Return of Camelot

The U.K. National Lottery Commission's decision to reject Camelot's bid for the National Lottery license has caused yet another uproar. The British High Court today announced that Camelot's bid for the seven-year lottery license had been unfairly dropped in favor of The People's Lottery consortium, which is fronted by Virgin's Sir Richard Branson. In addition, the Commission's application for permission to appeal the decision was denied.

ILC Seeks to Stop Net Lottery

The operators of a Prince Edward Island-based Internet lottery called The Earth Fund continue to prepare for the new site's launch, despite legal action taken by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC). Last week the ILC, an association of Canadian provincial lotteries, asked an Ontario court to declare that the Internet lottery's operation violated Canada's gaming laws.

A New Authority in Gaming: The Antiguan Initiative

The country of Antigua's betting and gaming regulations adhere to a law that was enacted in 1963. It's a drastically different world 27 years later, and gaming regulators there are now seeking to amend the legislation to bring it up to date. The Antiguan Parliament will soon take up a bill that calls for a new body specifically regulating gaming in the country. Policies regarding virtual sports wagering and casino gambling will be among those affected by the new regulations. Gary Collins, chairman of the Betting and Gaming Committee of Antigua and Barbuda, explains.

Details on the July 12 Motion against WIGC

World Interactive Gaming Corporation (WIGC), an online casino operator based in New York was recently ordered by Attorney General Eliot Spitzer to pay $1.8 million in restitution to defrauded investors, plus a further $4.5 million in penalties.
