Argentina's first state lottery has gone live at OfficialGames.com (JuegosOficiales.com). The site, currently being tested, allows users to sample games such as Loterie Chaquens (a pick-three virtual scratch card) and Virtual Bingo for fun. The official launch date is expected early this year, at which time Argentina residents will be able to purchase online scratch cards.

Time Stamping - A U.K. Perspective

Time stamping has been a big topic in the United Kingdom. British Prime Minister Tony Blair has trumpeted about an idea to establish Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the standard time stamp for all electronic transactions. (GMT is ground zero or the starting point for all time on Earth.) Two groups--Interactive Media in Retail Groups (IMRG), an association of e-commerce companies, and the London Internet Exchange (LINX)--have already been working on similar projects. (FYI: CertifiedTime, a San Jose company also featured in this series of articles, is a member of IMRG.) IGN spoke with Keith Mitchell of LINX to find out more about what's happening with time stamping issues in the U.K.

Chapter 2,426 of the U.K. Betting Tax Dilemma

Can lowering taxes increase revenues? According to the British Horseracing Board, yes, and that's exactly what the Board intends to propose to the U.K. Treasury. The Board has agreed to press for a reduction in General Betting Duty (GBD) from 6.75 percent to 5 percent in this year's budget and for a simultaneous cut in punter deductions from the present level of 9 percent to 5 percent. Board officials believe that a small cut in the GBD will result in more betting with locally based bookmakers, increasing revenues for the Treasury.
