The House of Representatives debated HR 4411, the Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act, for over three and a half hours today before approving it by a vote of 317-93. It will now be referred to the Senate for further consideration, where efforts to pass it are likely to be spearheaded by Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

Although it comes somewhat later than expected, Reps. Bob Goodlatte, R-VA, and James Leach, R-Iowa, have agreed upon the language of an online gambling prohibition bill that merges the distinct strengths of the two separate pieces of legislation each of them has been attempting to pass. The newly merged bill will receive a hearing and vote before the entire U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, July 11.

PartyGaming Said to be Finalizing Sports Book Acquisition

The Guardian
reports that PartyGaming, the world's largest online gambling company, is on the verge of acquiring an online sports book in an effort to further diversify its revenue streams. The newspaper says its sources for the information have been briefed on PartyGaming's plans to fund a series of online sports betting acquisitions with the proceeds of a bond issue that could raise between £221-276 million (US$400-500 million).

According to mediacompany.sohn, a 31-year-old businessman from Heidenheim, Germany had to wait 4.5 years to get a decision from the Strafsenats des Oberlandesgerichts Stuttgart (First penal court of the higher regional court of Stuttgart - OLG). This week OLG Stuttgart rejected the cassation of the public prosecutor's office against the already acquitted District Court of Heidenheim and the District Court of Ellwangen, and acquitted the operator of a private betting office (FILE NUMBER 1 Ss 296/05, judgment from the 26.06.2006).

WPT Switches Software Providers: WagerWorks Out, CyberArts In

WPTE founder and CEO Stephen Lipscomb ended his keynote address this morning at the World Poker Congress in Stockholm with the announcement that Berkeley, Ca.-based CyberArts will provide software solutions for WPTonline.com.
