Racing Task Force Commences in Ohio

Members of the newly formed Racing Commissioners International Special Task Force To Investigate Betting Rebates met earlier this month for the first time in Cincinnati, Ohio. Although the 37-member group was originally created to conduct a broad investigation into the extent of offshore betting over the Internet and telephone, members indicated during the meeting that they felt the largest threat facing the racing industry is posed by rebates given to off-track bettors, some of which offer rebates of up to 10 percent.»

Jamaica Considers Net Betting License Applications

Jamaica may soon be issuing Internet gambling licenses. The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission has already received at least three applications, although no licenses will be issued until the necessary legislation is in place, said Dennis Chung, one of the commissioners. "Let's put it this way," he added, "we're not turning back applications."»

Zaplets Illustrate New Email Possibilities

In August of 1999, a new software company called FireDrop was created in Redwood Shores, CA upon a new technological wonder known as the Zaplet. A high-tech incubator called "Relativity" developed the concept. Brian Axe, 31, was the member of this group who finally made the necessary moves to capitalize on the idea. Axe became partners with David Roberts, 36, who originally worked for the CIA, at a houseboat party. The two secretly began to set up their own company and patented the Zaplet.»
