I-Gaming Merger Talks Heat Up

As the I-gaming industry hunkers down in the wake of the United States prohibition, several former industry titans are looking to rebuild their businesses through consolidation. Amid recent staff shake-ups at PartyGaming and 888 subsidiaries, a stream of reports circulating last week conjectured various mergers and acquisitions (M&A) involving some variation of Ladbrokes, 888, PartyGaming or bwin. Las Vegas-based casino group MGM was also rumored to be trolling the market for beleaguered I-gaming companies.

Ministers from over 30 countries assembled in Royal Ascot Tuesday at the invitation of Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Tessa Jowell to discuss international issues relating to remote gaming. It had been hoped that some sort of framework agreement could be reached on key principles of the regulation of online, interactive TV and mobile phone gambling. The key issues for the DCMS are protecting the young and vulnerable, making remote gaming safe for users and keeping it free of crime.

Party/888 Merger Could Be in the Works

Online casino and poker room operator 888 confirmed today that it has been in talks with third parties since prohibitive Internet gambling legislation passed through the United States Senate in late September. Several reports have indicated that the company is in preliminary talks regarding a possible £1.6 billion ($3 billion) merger with industry rival PartyGaming.
