California Horse Racing's ADW Licensing System to Undergo Change

With the legislation that authorizes advance deposit wagering (ADW) in California set to expire at the end of 2007, the state's Racing Board is set to undertake extensive deliberations with the racing industry and the California Legislature in order to improve the ADW licensing model. ADW wagering has certainly brought in huge wagering amounts for the state, but there exists a few problematic areas that the Board would like to improve upon.

Western Union Shuts Down Antigua Offices

Money transfer services company Western Union on Jan. 4 shut down operations at its four agencies on the islands of Antigua and Barbuda. Its services through the four agencies are known to have been one of the payment methods accepted by several of the islands' online gambling operators, which has prompted speculation that Western Union may be reacting to the U.S. government's prohibitive approach to online gambling.
