British Horseracing Board Seeks Compensation from William Hil

William Hill executives might be busy setting up new offices in Antigua for their online bookmaking operations, but a few lingering problems keep calling them back to Britain. The British Horseracing Board (BHB) says that it has begun legal proceedings in March against William Hill for obtaining pre-race data from the BHB's database for use on the bookmaker's Internet betting site.»

The Telecommunications, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee of the House Commerce Committee met at 11 a.m. yesterday to discuss H.R. 3125, the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act. Overall, the hearing seemed to raise far more questions that it answered. A lot of issues clearly need to be resolved before the bill goes to the House for a vote.»

California Court Indicts Brown, Clark, Handa Lopez

While politicians in Washington D.C. battle over the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, another kind of legal drama is being played out in California. The ongoing investigation into the alleged illegal betting activity of the individuals who ran gaming software firm Handa Lopez, nearly 13 months after their Sunnyvale offices were raided, came to head yesterday when a two-count indictment against the two individuals as well as the company was filed in a San Jose Federal Court. Named in the indictment are Handa Lopez David Brown and Raymond Clark.»
McAllister Resigns

Gyneth McAllister, the Antigua Director of Offshore Gaming, told IGN today that she has officially resigned her position effective June 16, 2000. During her tenure, McAllister saw Antigua become the largest interactive gaming licensing jurisdiction, issuing more than 80 virtual casino or sportsbook licenses. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Lester Bird's office, however, indicated that the PM hasn't yet received her resignation.»
