Missouri AG Keeps Coeur d'Alene Issue on Agenda

The anti-gambling state attorney general Jay Nixon of Missouri has been trying for two years to keep the Coeur d'Alene Indians' national lottery out of the reach of Missouri citizens. In 1997, a federal judge ruled the tribe holds immunity from Missouri because of sovereignty of Indian tribes. On January 6, 1999, a panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals remanded the case to a lower court judge to determine whether the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act protects online games from state regulation even though the law refers only to gambling conducted on Indian land.
